Boris Rtcheouloff

Boris Rtcheouloff / Rcheulishvili ((グルジア語:ბორის რჩეულიშვილი)) was a Georgian scientist, and the inventor of “videotape”. He applied for a British patent on January 4, 1927 for a technique of recording television signals on 'a magnetic record of the Poulsen telegraphone type'.〔George Shiers and May Shiers, ''Early Television: A Bibliographic Guide to 1940'' (Taylor and Francis, 1997) p69〕 Sound would be recorded in sync on the reverse side. These ideas incorporated a way to record sound or pictures by causing a strip, disc, or cylinder of iron or other magnetic material to be magnetized. He did not pay the annual renewal fee, so his patent soon lapsed.〔New Scientist, (Vol. 100, No. 1386, Dec 1983) p666〕
